The Alfresco Group PLC Environmental Policy - Hardwood Garden Furniture
The Environment...
The Alfresco Group PLC is deeply committed to protecting the natural environment and we were both founded on, and adhere to, strong environmental principles behind all of our products. The Alfresco Group PLC remains committed to the philosophy and practice of helping to preserve natural forests, protecting the environment and producing only ecologically responsible hardwood furniture.
In order to ensure that we meet these important objectives every single Alfresco hardwood product is 100% made from legally felled and government certified forest timber, and as such we are producers of genuinely ecologically responsible furniture. This certification ensures that not only does our wood conform to the highest legal environmental standards, but it has also been sourced and transported in a socially responsible and historically sensitive manner from forests independently government certified and well managed. Today we are proud of the fact that by buying any Alfresco hardwood designs we can guarantee you are not only buying responsibly but investing in furniture with a very clear conscience.
We all love quality hardwood furniture, but not if it's at the expense of the dwindling rainforests. So we have spent the last few years searching for sources of timber that don't compromise the environment and so that you can rest assured that the timber we use comes from legal sources. Today, all our timber comes from strictly managed forests that have been checked and approved by the Vietnamese government and backed by full chain of custody documentation throughout its journey to our manufacturing facilities.
At Alfresco we pride ourselves on the care of the environment. As such we strive to ensure that all our materials are sourced and manufactured in an environmentally sound way. For our furniture we only use legal wood from well managed forest and we are able to track all of the wood used, from the forest through the saw milling process, and further into furniture production and delivery to the UK via the COC (Chain of Custody) system.
All Alfresco furniture strives to comply with the regulations protecting not only the environment, but also social and economic standards. We support the aims of the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) and all timber used in the manufacture of our products is from a legally certified sources. Our Factories, who are ISO 9002 approved, are also working to maximise efficiency of resources through new product development, upgrading production technology, and reducing emissions to air, land and water as our shared company ethical policies.
Our Materials...
All of our primary 2010 hardwood designs are manufactured from the most durable of certified Yellow Balau hardwood. Yellow Balau is inherently suited to garden furniture manufacture due to its very high density levels (approx 900kg/m3) and therefore less air within the species' open pores means that it is more difficult for the outdoor moisture to penetrate and therefore damage the wood's structure and stability over time. The natural colour of the species is enhanced by our use of only clear hardwood preservative penetrating oils in manufacture and therefore our finished designs retain the beautiful yellowish brown colour with the natural grain patterns highlighted. The straight and occasionally interlocked grain means that the species lends itself to quality outdoor furniture production and durability. The texture to touch is smooth and even and can be sanded or reworked at anytime through the products long life span to retain its natural original beauty.
Our superior Yellow Balau raw material hardwood is Kiln dried to a maximum humidity in accordance with international specifications and our own very stringent QC policies and personnel with the manufacturing process to deliver you a stable, durable and beautiful set of furniture for many years ahead.
